Trunity Holdings Announces School District of Palm Beach County Adopts First All-Digital Textbook for Use by More Than 3000 South Florida Students

Published Exclusively on the Trunity eLearning Platform, "Fundamentals of Web Communication with Adobe Dreamweaver Creative Cloud" Will Engage High School Students in Developing Key Digital Communication Skills

PORTSMOUTH, NH -- (Marketwired) -- 08/27/14 -- Trunity Holdings, Inc. (OTCBB: TNTY) (OTCQB: TNTY) ("Trunity"), a pioneer of eLearning technology that transforms the educational experience, today announced that the School District of Palm Beach County ("SDPBC") has chosen to adopt Fundamentals of Web Communication with Adobe Dreamweaver Creative Cloud as its first, all-digital textbook for use by more than 3000 high school students and teachers within the South Florida school district over the next five years.

Published exclusively on the Trunity eLearning Platform and co-authored on the Platform by Kim Cavanaugh and Sheri German, the digital textbook covers topics that empower students to develop key digital communication skills and provide them with a strong foundation in the use of Dreamweaver®, a full-featured tool used by web designers and developers to create websites and mobile applications using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Utilized as one of the primary textbooks for specific SDPBC's Career and Technical Education Pathways programs of study, the book and related learning activities will help prepare Palm Beach County students interested in pursuing careers in the technology fields to take the Adobe Certified Associate ("ACA") Exam; Upon passing the exam, students receive ACA certification, a credential that attests to entry-level skills with Dreamweaver. The digital textbook is accessible by authorized students and teachers in the Trunity Knowledge Exchange for use on any web-enabled device, including smartphones and tablets.

The national push continues for public school districts to move away from paper textbooks and toward digital curricula and e-textbooks as a means to reduce costs and improve learning outcomes for K-12 students. U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, has continued to urge educators to move quickly to adoption of digital textbooks and materials. In 2012, the Federal Communications Commission and the Education Department released a report, the Digital Textbook Playbook, which provides a blueprint for schools to make the shift to digital content. In support of digital adoption, the state of Florida adopted legislation requiring districts to spend half their instructional materials budgets on digital content by the 2015-16 school year. The Florida Digital Instructional Materials Group Final Report and Recommendations published by Florida's Department of Education highlighted a key finding: "There is now wide consensus that schools cannot possibly prepare students to participate in a gobal economy without making intensive use of technology, and that digital literacy and universal access to high quality digital learning are considered essential to the building of a comprehensive knowledge-based economy."

The School District of Palm Beach County is the 11th largest school system in the continental U.S. and the fifth largest in the State of Florida, with 185 schools serving nearly 200,000 students each year. To better prepare students for the 21st century and to help them graduate college and be career-ready, the Department of Choice and Career Options within SDPBC has developed Career Pathways encompassing rigorous Programs of Study to give students the academic preparation, direction and career-related knowledge to help them plan studies that are in line with their personal interests, abilities and career goals. Programs of Study that will be adopting Fundamentals of Web Communication with Adobe Dreamweaver Creative Cloud will include Arts, A/V Technology and Communication and Information Technology, among others.

Dr. Cutler J. Cleveland, Chief Education Officer at Trunity, stated, "We applaud SDPBC for embracing what Trunity has long understood: digital textbooks are a central element in the blending of traditional and digital learning platforms in K-12 schools. Aside from the notable cost savings (digital textbooks cost up to 70-80% less than conventional printed textbooks), the adoption of digital learning resources offered on the Trunity eLearning Platform provides a number of meaningful benefits and advantages over printed textbooks and traditional e-books, including:

  • Trunity digital textbooks cannot be lost or vandalized, and they do not physically degrade, thus eliminating the need for book replacements;
  • Trunity digital textbooks can be updated in real-time, ensuring that content remains fresh, accurate and timely;
  • Instructors and schools can add their own content;
  • Trunity digital textbooks support interactive rich media content by incorporating video and audio files, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, interactive learning exercises, and social collaboration tools, among others; and
  • Trunity digital textbooks are "virtual": they do not weigh down students' backpacks and are not inconvenient to carry around.
